Die Deutschstrasse

Students in New Testament studies (and many other fields) are required to eventually learn German if they (against their better judgement) continue to pursue higher education. I’m not going to lie, and I realize that this video isn’t totally fair in its characterization of German and the way it compares to other languages, but this is definitely the impression I got when I first started down the Deutschstrasse.

“σσ” My Current Greek Nemesis

  • ἐκπλήσσω
  • ἐκτινάσσω
  • ἐξορύσσω
  • ὀρυσσω
  • προστάσσω
  • σπαράσσω
  • ταράσσω

These seven words are my most recent enemies as I try and learn every word in Mark. I have put in more work trying to remember these seven, slightly similar words than all the rest combined so far. As soon as I have one, one of the others falls right out of my memory. Any other people have problems like this? For any language really, doesn’t have to be Greek.
